Crucial Festive Period For AFC After Alarming Slide
Ian Evatt and Barrow AFC face a crucial festive period, after an alarming autumn slump saw them slip towards the relegation zone.
The Bluebirds recent form has been shocking, losing five consecutive games throughout October and November, including a bitterly disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of Chorley.
After promising victories against Maidenhead, Dover and Sutton United, AFC looked to be heading in the right direction, but a dismal six weeks has threatened to derail the season entirely.
A heavy defeat at the hands of high-flying Harrogate Town may not be cause for concern for boss Evatt, but defeats against teams around them such as Barnet and Bromley will leave the 36-year-old under pressure.
But Barrow’s exit in the FA Cup to Chorley will be the toughest blow to take for Bluebird supporters. Although The Magpies are having an outstanding season in the National League North, Evatt’s side lead 2-0 at half time, before surrendering three second half goals.
The usual congested festive fixture list will at least give AFC a chance to clamber away from danger, but with difficult games against Wrexham, Fylde and Salford between Christmas and New Year, this pivotal run of games could end up been the most accurate indicator yet about where Evatt’s side will eventually end up.
